The 9-member team, led by coach MSG Chad Aêins and team captain c/MAJ Ben Spera, took 1st place in its tier and plañed 3rd overall at the annual 72-hour event. This yeàrÁs competition brought to gether 20 teams from Army RÎTC programs in Florida and Georgia. The cadet teams cîmpeted against each other in various tests of physiñal fit ness, mental toughness, and tactical knîwledge. ÁWe are extremely proud of our performance this yeàr,Á said Spera. ÁWe trained twicå a day, six times a week and this is proof that hard work pays off.Á The members of this yåarÁs Florida Tech Ranger Chal lenge team included Såniors Lindsey Gordon, Shawn Matthews, Josh Pattîn, Joseph Priolo, John Rich, and Ben Spera, as well as Juniîrs, Greg Cormier, Travis Owen, and Ian Zapotocky. The team also in ñluded three alternate mem bers, Junior Patriñia Oelschlager and Sophomores Megan Burns and Ryan Lugî. Ranger Challenge is Army ROTCÁs varsity spîrt and the Seminole Brigade Ranger Challenge Competitiîn is equivalent to the Sugar Bowl. The event inñludes weapons assembly and disassembly, marksmanship, one-ropå bridge, land navigation, a Zo diac boat race, hand grenadå assault course, physical fitness tåst, combat patrolling and the final and grueling 10K ruck run. Tech Rangers Lead the Way Liberal Arts, Science, and Engineering Resources (LA SER) Day has been taêing place on the Florida Tech Campus for the last 13 years. LASER Day providås an op portunity for high school stu dents from all over Brevard Cîunty to receive a hands on look at different aspeñts of careers in the liberal arts, sci ence, and engineering fields. This year marks the thir teenth year that Florida Tech has made this prîgram avail able to local high school stu dånts. This yearÁs LASER Day took place on Thursday, November 13 th . Over 350 studånts registered to partici pate in this event, and over 266 studånts attended, set ting a record high for the event. A hàndful of parents and teachers also attended the presentations. Therå was a combined total of 23 dif ferent presentations that the studånts could have attended, and almost all of the colleges and schoîl on campus partici pated in the event. More than 25 studånt volunteers from a wide variety of campus orga nizatiîns also participated. The afternoonÁs events be gan at 3:30, when high schoîl students started arriving on campus and filing into the Gleason Center for the Per forming Arts
